Isolation Offers its Own Form of Companionship

For my final assignment in my NKU internship class, we had to create a project relating to how our internships were effected by the Corona outbreak or Corona itself. The requirements for what the end product has to look like were pretty loose and just had to be approved by our professor prior to starting.

I was an RA on campus and given the option to stay in my dorm while all other students had to leave the residents halls, so I took the chance to have some alone time and continue to self isolate. The university was completely empty and it was eerie but also became somewhat of a playground for me. This is what inspired my idea to create a video almost showing off my routine of what you do during the day on an empty college campus when you have no where to go and no one to see.

I shot the whole thing using just my Sony A6300, Manfrotto tripod, and the environment around me. My biggest regret is that I tried to stay too true to my idea of what you do during the daytime. I shot in mid day which resulted in me having to shoot at a very high aperture to block out sunlight so my image wasn't blown out. Of course even with an ND filter on, colors still get blown out and image quality suffers when you shoot in the afternoon during Summer. My favorite scene was when I worked out on the intramural fields because I shot that at sunset so the colors all look much more level and vibrant and I was able to lower my aperture to get some separation from the background.

Of course, I also loved shooting and smashing the fruit with my sledgehammer. Despite my gripes, I am still very happy with my final project (as was my professor) and loved seeing it come together during the editing process. Next time I just won't shoot in the afternoon on a sunny day or I'll make sure to use a very heavy duty ND filter.
Thank you for watching!
